Durham - Donald R. Bassett, 89, husband of the late Sara W. Bassett, formerly of 24 Bagdad Road, Durham, died at The Ridge at Riverwoods, Exeter,NH. on October 25,2012.

Born in Palmertown, PA, on August 14, 1923, he was the son of Arthur Whiting Bassett and Helen Hall Bassett. He and his wife lived in Durham for over 30 years before moving to the Ridge at Riverwoods in 2005.

Don was a long time member of St. George’s Episcopal Church where he was active in the Vestry, Choir and was awarded the St George’s Medal. He served in the Navy for over 35 years as a dentist. After his retirement, he taught pharmacology, supervised teaching dentistry at Tufts and volunteered in the UNH Marine Docent Program. Don’s interests included painting, woodworking, cooking and singing. He traveled worldwide with the NH Friendship Chorus.

He is survived by one son, Donald R Bassett Jr. of Hope Valley, RI, three daughters, Deborah Yering of Waterford CT , Lynne Giessing of Bradenton FL and Stephanie Potts of Franklin MA; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Marion Brenner of New Britain, CT.

Calling hours for family and friends will be held at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home in Newmarket on Sunday, November 4 from 5-7 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Durham, NH.
