Newmarket - Eleanor C. Marelli, 88, of South Main Street, died January 6, 2013 at her home in Newmarket.
Born September 23, 1924 in Newmarket, NH, she was the daughter of G. James and Celia (Luoni) Marelli. She was a lifelong resident of Newmarket and was a 1942 graduate of Newmarket High School. She attended UNH where she took secretarial courses.
Eleanor was first employed as a ship fitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and she then worked at the Newmarket Post Office. For many years she was a clerk at Newmarket National Bank. In the early 1980’s, when her brother, Harry, retired from the family business, Marelli’s Fruit & Real Estate, Eleanor stepped in and began running the business. She operated the business until a few years ago, but has remained active in the bookkeeping and management of the store.
She was a member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 67 in Newmarket and has been a loyal supporter of the Girls State Program.
Eleanor loved animals and also supported NHSPCA.
She was predeceased by her brother, Harry P. Marelli, and by her sisters, Jennie Loiselle and Eva Riley. She is survived by a niece, Barbara Scherer; 2 nephews, Allan Riley and his wife Amy G., and David Loiselle and his wife Nancy; several great and great great nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 8th, at 11 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.
