Berwick, Maine – Raymond B. Girouard, 77, of Merriam Street, died February 9, 2013 at Hyder Family Hospice House, Dover after a long illness.
Born June 5, 1935 in Newmarket, he was the son of Leon and Elizabeth (McDaniel) Girouard. His mother died when he was very young and he was raised in Newmarket by his grandparents. He resided in Somersworth before moving to Berwick in 1973.
In 1952 he enlisted with the US Army and served 2 tours of duty in Korea.
Ray was a trained mechanic and also worked as a painter for many years including at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He retired from the Shipyard in 1990. Ray enjoyed competing in horseshoe tournaments, gardening and fishing.
He was predeceased by his sister, Irene.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy A. (Potvin) Girouard of Berwick; 1 son, Raymond V. Girouard and his finance Tiffanie Guilmette of Somersworth; 2 daughters, Tina E. Naimie and her husband Christopher of Bow and Lora Ann Harvey and her husband Keith of Portland, ME; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas & Lilly Naimie and Katelyn Harvey; 1 brother, Leon Girouard of Arlington, VA; a sister, Louise Aspen of New Castle, NH; several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, March 3rd from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. Memorial Service at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket.
